Final March stats

I rode the bus 25 times in March. (I also spent spring break out of town, taking all sorts of public transit ... more on that in my next post.) I drove only 251 miles in March, for a grand total so far this year of just 822 miles. At this rate, I could drive fewer than 3,500 miles this year, except I know some long road trips will boost my totals. That's OK: I drive when I must, and I take transit when I can.

I last bought gas a month ago, and I still have close to a quarter tank left. That's a good feeling as prices edge back up toward $3 a gallon.

Julie, Those are some great statistics. Mine would be similar with some bike to work mixed in. I thought I would just throw out an interesting point for you and your readers. My insurance company has lower rates when you drive less than 7500 miles per year. It also has lower rates if you don't drive to work multiple days a week. When I stopped commuting a few years back, my insurance rates greatly decreased.

Great point on insurance! I need to check with my agent about getting a break. I'll easily be under 7500 miles this year, even with a few road trips.

Julie, I have wondered if you have seen the pictures mentioned in the TVT blog: http://tvtblog.wordpress.com/2006/09/12/demonstration/

I have seen them, but I can't remember if they were online or if someone showed 'em to me in person.

If you have a link to the photos online, please post it. Thanks!

TVT modeled their photos after some that were done in Tampa, FL, a number of years ago.

I wrote about it HERE on my "bike nazi" blog.
